WHAT HARTFORD HOMES ARE LIKE
OLDER HOUSING STOCK
Much of Hartford was built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Colonials, Victorians and brick homes sit on the same streets as mid-century capes. Houses this age have usually been updated in stages, so it is common to find new finishes over original wiring, plumbing or heating. Our job is to show you where the old and new meet, and which items need attention first.
TWO- AND THREE-FAMILY HOMES
Two- and three-family houses are common in many Hartford neighborhoods, and buyers often plan to live in one unit and rent the others. These buildings can have a separate heating system, electrical service and water heater for each unit, plus shared stairs, porches and basements. That means more systems to evaluate and more places where deferred maintenance can hide.
WHAT WE WATCH FOR IN HARTFORD
Our home inspection covers the interior, exterior and mechanical systems of every house. In Hartford, these items come up often:
- Heating systems: older oil-fired boilers and furnaces, steam and hot-water radiator systems, and homes that were converted from oil to gas
- Signs of a past oil tank, such as fill pipes, vent pipes or abandoned supply lines, inside or outside the house
- Electrical: older service panels, ungrounded outlets, and wiring added onto original circuits over the years
- Plumbing: older supply and drain piping, water heaters near the end of their life, and leaks at fixtures
- Basements: water stains, efflorescence, damp walls and musty odors in stone and block foundations
- Roofs, chimneys, gutters, porches and stairs on older two- and three-story homes

HARTFORD HOME INSPECTION FAQ
Do you inspect homes in Hartford?
Yes. We are based in East Hartford, just across the Connecticut River, and we serve Hartford and the rest of Connecticut. Call (860) 502-4583 or use the contact page to schedule.
Should I test for radon in a Hartford home?
Yes. Radon comes from the ground under the house, and testing is the only way to know the level. The EPA recommends testing all homes below the third floor, which covers most single-family homes and the lower units of multi-family houses.
Do I need an oil tank sweep?
If the house is older or was ever heated with oil, a sweep is worth considering. A buried tank that leaks can contaminate soil and groundwater, and the cleanup becomes the owner's problem.
When will I get my report?
Reports are delivered digitally, same-day to within 24 hours, with a summary of significant findings and photos of each issue.
